Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy - The Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapists' Toolbox
Psychiatrist Fort Collins CO is a new concept. The earlier forms of assisted
psychotherapy were limited to a very narrow range of issues. Things like
depression, addiction, sexual abuse, etc. had been a hallmark of psychotherapy.
However,
in recent years, many therapists have started to explore the possibilities of
dealing with more non-traditional topics, such as addiction. Ketamine Assisted
Psychotherapy is one of these new ideas that has slowly been gaining
acceptance. This article will focus on Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy and the
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapists' Toolbox, and where the Ketamine Assisted
Psychotherapists' Toolbox comes from.
Well...
this is an exciting new breakthrough drug that could provide us with an easy to
administer route to a good night's sleep. It has to be used within the bounds
of a physician, but it could make a huge difference in the quality of sleep for
many people.
Recently,
a friend of mine was admitted to the hospital, having overdosed, on some drugs,
which included narcotics and sedatives, purchased at a friend's home. The
friend had the drugs for her friend, and my friend was there for a long time. I
was there when the friend finally came round, and the first thing she said was
"Can I use Ketamine?"
As
my friend had previously experienced with sedatives and analgesics
(painkillers), I did what any sensible person would do and asked her to try an
IV. You can imagine my surprise when she spat out several sheets of the stuff,
and then several needles.
She
was then rushed into surgery, and the two skilled medical professionals there
ran an EEG. They found a wave in her brain, which led them to the conclusion
that Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy might be the answer. I then began
researching the effects of Ketamine on the brain and found that this type of
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy was already available to many therapists, even
in Colorado, as it is a relatively new process.
The
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapists' Toolbox is an 'ultra', so as it is not a
medical procedure, there is no need for a professional psychiatrist or any
other type of trained physician. The toolbox consists of ketamine gel (which is
pure ketamine and is inserted into the skin), a white vinegar solution (this is
dissolving the ketamine in the vinegar), a moisturizer (which replenishes the
gel), and the right safety gear (I recommend wearing ear plugs and goggles).
The
patients are injected twice a day, the first time just a few minutes before
bedtime. The second injection is given right before going to sleep. I still
need to improve upon the preparation of the ketamine gel, but so far this is
working well.
The
benefits of Ketamine for patients suffering from depression, are a great
benefit, but it must be remembered that Ketamine can also produce feelings of
paranoia, and people who are prone to psychotic episodes are also prone to
Ketamine psychosis. Ketamine psychosis is a serious illness, which requires the
full attention of the healthcare team.
Also,
this is not to say that anyone in that position will necessarily be of any
help, as they may be mentally unwell, or may just not be in a position to
assess the situation in any way. The patient should always seek the advice of a
medical practitioner before embarking on Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy.
I
am certainly glad to see this wonderful idea gaining popularity. Ketamine
Assisted Psychotherapy makes perfect sense for the types of issues mentioned
above, but anyone could use this new therapy to deal with a wide range of
different problems. One medical term I use a lot in my practice is 'minor
traumatic event'.
This
is a form of therapy that could be used to help someone who has experienced a
traumatic event, or set of events. The therapist could inject ketamine into the
patient and then use suggestions to help them cope with what they may
experience after the event. There is much potential in this field, and there is
a huge amount of potential for Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy.
